Sunscreen is an important part of any skin care routine. Even though fall has arrived, SPF should still be part of your daily skin care routine. I love a mineral based SPF, like TIZO3.
Before I get into specifics about TIZO3, let’s talk about the difference between mineral sunscreen vs. regular sunscreen.
Mineral Sunscreen vs. Regular Sunscreen: Here’s what you need to know.
Most of you are aware of the dangers of sun exposure. Many of you are even aware that sun exposure is a year-round issue…not just a summer thing, which is great. But, did you also know that the TYPE of sunscreen you use is just as important as using sunscreen in general?
Not all sunscreen is created equal so it’s important you find the right one. The biggest difference between a mineral based sunscreen and a regular sunscreen that is generally chemically based, is their ingredient list.
Mineral based sunscreens typically contain two natural active ingredients, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, that sit on top of your skin and reflect the UV rays away.
The Scoop on Regular Sunscreens
Regular sunscreens contain a laundry list of chemicals that work to absorb the sun’s UV rays. When the chemicals absorb the rays, they are broken down to protect your skin from exposure. The issue is, in order for your skin to be protected from the UV ways, your body has to absorb the chemicals in the sunscreen.
This can be an issue if you have sensitive skin and even cause irritation for the average Joe. On top of that, the chemicals in some traditional sunscreens may have adverse effects on your health. If you do some Googling you’ll find varied reports on this. Some people say, since the chemicals used are FDA approved and you’re getting them in small doses, it doesn’t matter. While others argue using them over time and having them build up in your body could be a problem.
I’m not a doctor and I haven’t done my own studies on this, so I chose to air on the side of caution and advise my clients to do the same. Selecting a mineral sunscreen vs. regular sunscreen is a simple way to avoid unnecessary exposure to chemicals you don’t NEED.
Even if you don’t buy the lines I carry, I always recommend mineral sunscreen to my clients. Many mineral sunscreens are free of all the nasties. I’m talking about things like the chemicals I mentioned above PLUS sunscreen filters, dyes, fragrances, oils and preservatives.
