If you’re making skin care a priority this year, this post will be important for you!  Just like making changes to your diet and exercise routine, setting a goal to improve your skin can be overwhelming.  In this post, I’ll share 7 unspoken rules you should adhere to if you want to take the overwhelm out of skin care and make the most of your time with me while getting the results you want!

1. DON’T expect to book a same day, or same week appointment.Lash Lifts in McKinney

If you want to get in to see me and you want to come in consistently throughout the year, I encourage you to jump on my online booking system and reserve the next available time that is open.  That time is likely a few months out. Yes, I said months.  While I know that isn’t ideal, I do have a wait list so you can also be added to that and I’ll contact you if something opens sooner.

When you do come in, be sure to rebook a series of future appointments before leaving.  Many of my clients reserve their spots for an entire calendar year to make sure they are able to get in.

2. DON’T use drug store products and expect professional results.

There are some Estheticians that won’t treat clients if they aren’t using the at home skin care products they sell and recommend.  I haven’t put that “rule” in place in my practice as I know sometimes it boils down to cost, and I’d rather try to do what I can within the budget you have.

That said, if you’re serious about improving your skin, the best way to do that is by using products at home that are going to help improve your skin in between your visits to see me.  At your next visit, ask me for product recommendations.  Even if you start with one new product and add in additional ones as you run out of your current products, that is better than using drug store products that can do more harm than good.  If you aren’t seeing the improvements you want, we NEED to take a look at what you’re using at home.

3. DON’T deviate from our plan.

If you come in and tell me you have a specific skin goal, I will give you a plan to correct it.  That plan will likely be a combination of in studio services and at home products.  If you want results, don’t deviate from our plan without talking with me.  If something isn’t working we can adjust it but if you take it upon yourself to make changes, you may end up derailing any progress we’ve made.

4. DON’T use your phone.

If you’re coming in for an appointment, please put your phone away.  For one, it can get in the way of my work.  Two, throughout your session, I will need to ask you questions and share care instructions with you.  If you’re preoccupied scrolling through social media, you may miss something important!

Plus, using your time in my studio as a “break” is the perfect way to fit in some well-deserved self-care.

5. DON’T touch your face.

During your treatments, it’s super helpful to me if you can avoid touching your face.  Hands, no matter how clean they are, can contain oils and bacteria.  If you’re touching your face while I’m trying to clean it, well that’s basically like brushing your teeth while eating Oreos!

6. DON’T cancel or no show an appointment.

Appointments at Avila Skin Studio are tough to come by.  As I mentioned earlier, I’m usually booked months in advance so if you do have an appointment, don’t cancel or no show.  It will take months to get back in!

7. DON’T tell me what you think you need.

Last but certainly not least, if you want to make the most out of your time with me and get results, don’t come in and tell me what you want me to do.  While it’s good to have an idea of what you think you want/need, it’s also important to keep an open mind and allow me to treat you in a way that I think will be most effective.  If you come in and insist on a peel but your skin is super dry, it’s only going to make your skin worse!  Instead, tell me what you’d like and let me use my knowledge and expertise to fine tune an impactful treatment for you.

Adhering to these 7 unspoken rules will ensure you not only get the most out of your time in my studio but also that you get results!   I can’t wait to see you this year and help you achieve your best skin.  Don’t forget those sugaring appointments too!
